Construction Safety Officer (CSO)

Currently we are in need of a dedicated Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to join the Coquitlam team. The successful candidate will have experience with safety on a high rise concrete construction sites, work well in a collaborative and fast paced environment, and will demonstrate excellent judgment, good common sense, and be a quick learner. The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager, the Construction Safety Officer (CSO) will be responsible for monitoring safety performances, completing daily site inspections and ensuring the project is properly implementing Townline’s Health and Safety Standards.

The Duties of the Construction Safety Officer may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide first aid treatment within scope of training;
  • Maintain first aid facilities and equipment;
  • Implement and monitor Townline’s safety program and related policies;
  • Monitor the safety performance of all on-site workers;
  • Hold weekly safety meetings with Townline employees;
  • Complete daily site inspections;
  • Ensure safety reports, orientations, meeting minutes and data are collected and submitted to the Superintendent and Construction Manager as required; and
  • Able to physically work on site to maintain site housekeeping, repair guardrails, and perform general labour duties, etc. as required;
  • Other duties may be assigned consistent with the job description.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Occupational First Aid Level 2 required;
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification preferred;
  • At least 3-5 years of high rise construction experience preferred;
  • Strong working knowledge of local residential/commercial construction practices;
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks & meet deadlines;
  • Comfortable working with and/or learning new software programs (i.e. Procore; SiteMax);
  • Proficient using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Successful candidate will be required to provide official documentation confirming receipt of two (2) doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as recognized for use in Canada, prior to starting employment.  Continued employment will be conditional on receiving, and providing confirmation of, any additional “booster” vaccine doses, as recommended by the Ministry of Health & Provincial Health Officer.  Exceptions based on medical, religious or other valid grounds will be considered on a case by case basis.
